I dont get the fight this seems more like an “oh sweet two cakes” situation. If anything more shows should have both in it just like how shows use to make more 2nd year characters so they could have kouhai and senpai.

two cakes = 二者択一で争わず「両方もらえばいい」と受け流すときに使うネットミーム（”oh sweet, two cakes”）。
senpai / kouhai = 先輩／後輩。
